Stuck inside watching the rain? 🌧️

What a perfect day to send your submission on the Phase 2 of the Royal Commission Inquiry into the Covid Response! 📝

Today's the last day, you have until midnight.
But don't worry, Aotearoa Covid Action has put together an excellent explainer to make it super easy for you to write a few lines and be heard. 😷✊🏽
I'll also be boosting people who post their submission so others can be inspired.

And so it begins. Today is the dreaded Family Event where I forced rapid covid pre-testing on everyone. 🙄

Adding to the stress is that one out-of-town cousin will be staying overnight with me on Monday. She graciously volunteered to test on Monday before coming to my house! 👍

I assured her my family will also test on Monday. She said: "You don't have to test. I don't care. Don't waste 3 tests on me."

I said: "We care about not getting you sick! That's not a waste." 🤷🏻‍♀️

We need public health campaigns on how to prevent COVID infections (respirators & clean air!) as well as who can get Long COVID & how it presents.

Stigma, denial & misinformation are leading folks to think that Long COVID is rare. That they don’t know anyone impacted by the condition.

They’re wrong: disabledginger.com/p/i-dont-kn

The Disabled Ginger · I Don't Know Anyone With Long CovidBy Broadwaybabyto

Whenever RFK Jr and Dr Oz ramble on about how most American kids aren’t healthy enough to serve in the military… ask yourself why they never talk about Covid?

If they truly wanted to improve health, we would have clean air, paid time off, free respirators and masks in healthcare.

SpringerLinkLong-term clinical outcome and exercise capacity in SARS-CoV-2-positive elite athletes - German Journal of Exercise and Sport ResearchAims This study aimed to explore the epidemiological circumstances, long-term clinical outcomes, and perceived impact of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection on elite athletes’ sports performance. A secondary objective was to determine the sports-specific (contact vs. noncontact) prevalence of SARS-CoV‑2 among 65 SARS-CoV-2-positive athletes from the Olympic Training Center Rhineland (OSP; n = 599). Methods In all, 65 SARS-CoV-2-positive athletes from the German Olympic Training Center (OSP; 66% males—age: 23 ± 4 years; 34% females—age: 23 ± 5 years) participated in the panel study. Data collection occurred between June 2020 and October 2021 at two test times (t0: after a negative polymerase chain reaction [PCR] test, t1: 16 weeks after t0) through questionnaires and clinical assessments. Results The SARS-CoV‑2 prevalence was nearly identical in noncontact and contact-sport athletes (10.8% vs. 11.3%); 37% experienced symptoms lasting > 4 weeks. Over 50% of athletes paused their training for 4–8 weeks. At t1, 40% still experienced reduced perceived performance capacity (PPC) compared to their pre-COVID-19 level, while 64% reported ongoing limitations in sports participation, with mental and physical fatigue as the most prominent limiting factor, followed by shortness of breath and joint and muscle pain. Conclusion The long-term management of SARS-CoV-2-positive elite athletes should involve a comprehensive, multidimensional psychophysiological approach to address persistent sport-restricting symptoms. This approach will assist in developing tailored training protocols that allow a gradual increase in intensity and volume.

#Flu and #RSV seasons seem to be basically over in #NYC, and the current #COVID wave is abating! COVID death rates will hopefully be lower next month.

I'm switching to monitoring case and wastewater increases now, hoping if we have a summer #COVID19 wave it'll be small and short!

#COVIDIsNotOver as long as people are dying and going to the hospital for this disease, so I'll continue to #WearAMask in elevators, trains and buses. #MaskUp in doctors' offices, pharmacies and supermarkets!

Had a mail service person at the door with something to be signed and sent back out. Asked how they were while they waited just outside the open door. "I'm sick." Sick earlier in the month, made to come back to work while still sick. Back to work going from office to office. Glad our door opens directly to the outside, and that I'm wearing my elastomeric mask, as always. What are we doing, geez.

Question for the #CovidIsNotOver and #covid sensitive group: less than half full flight, no one in my row, one person in front, no one in row behind me. Would you say low enough risk to take off my #mask ? I'm a healthy young person, and it's May coming from a state with low COVID wastewater levels. I ended up keeping it on, but curious to know peoples thoughts/insights on this.
