I finally got an air filter for travel. Between the portability and multivoltage requirements, I decided to go with the AirFanta 3 Pro. I learned a lot about air filters with help from @CovidSafeFurs and this one fits all my needs: it does DC in, it can collapse to fit in a suitcase (takes up maybe half of one of those overhead bin hardshells), it's super easy to assemble with no tools, and it should be able to easily hit 6-12 ACH in a typical 300-500 sq ft hotel room. Also, it uses a single knob and no silly screens or wifi gubbins. Tempted to paint the upper and lower plastic pieces bright orange because fanta lol

🔗 Characteristic immune cell interactions in livers of children with acute hepatitis revealed by spatial single-cell analysis identify a possible postacute sequel of COVID-19 gut.bmj.com/content/early/2025

Gut · Characteristic immune cell interactions in livers of children with acute hepatitis revealed by spatial single-cell analysis identify a possible postacute sequel of COVID-19Background A rise in paediatric cases of acute hepatitis of unknown origin (AHUO) was observed in 2022, some requiring liver transplantation. A link to adeno-associated virus 2 infection and CD4+T-cell mediated disease was reported in cohorts in the UK and USA but does not explain all cases. Objective To determine the intrahepatic immune cell interactions in the inflamed liver and a possible contribution of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Design Patients with acute non-A non-E hepatitis (10/12 AHUO, 2/12 subacute) during February 2022–December 2022 undergoing liver biopsy were recruited in a European patient cohort. Hepatological, virological, histopathological and highly multiplexed spatial and single-cell analyses of liver biopsies were performed. Results Patients were negative for adenoviral and SARS-CoV-2 PCR. Three patients had a positive adenoviral serology and 10/12 patients had a history or serological evidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Imaging mass cytometry identified significant intrahepatic immune infiltration with an enrichment of CD8+T-cells. The highest CD8 infiltration and concomitant peripheral immune activation were observed in patients with the most severe hepatitis. CD8+T-cell infiltration was connected to histomorphological interface hepatitis and bridging necrosis. Cellular neighbourhood analysis indicated disease-associated microanatomic interactions between CX3CR1+ endothelial and myeloid cell populations, interacting with effector CD8+T-cells suggesting a pathogenic cellular triad. Of note, we detected intrahepatic SARS-CoV-2 antigens in ACE2-expressing cells in the areas with significant pathology in 11/12 samples using several different detection methods. 10/12 patients were treated with corticosteroid therapy and no liver transplantation was required. Conclusions We identified a possible manifestation of an immune-mediated postacute sequel to COVID-19 associated with a characteristic immune infiltrate in children with AHUO. COVID-19 testing should be considered in paediatric AHUO. Data are available in a public, open access repository. The imaging data and high-resolution versions of the figures illustrating IMC data are available at zenondo.org (reference: 40) 10.5281/zenodo.14097945. The clinical data isare listed in tables in this manuscript.

Huge cuts at NIOSH mean that those who reply on respirators to keep themselves safe will have less protection. This impacts firefighters, miners, healthcare workers and all manner of industries.

It’s also devastating to the disability community.

“You do you” Covid policies left many of us with N95s as our main line of defence against repeat infection.

Respirators make public spaces accessible. They allow us to attend healthcare appointments without forced infection.

Cutting the people who ensure their quality will endanger disabled lives.

People refer to Covid in the past tense because they WANT it to be over… not because it actually IS over.

We’ve all suffered a collective trauma, and most people are refusing to process or deal with it.

A few key points people are determined to “forget”:

“During Covid” is now.

“During the pandemic” is now.

Covid is not over.

Covid IS airborne.

Masks, especially well fitted N95s, offer excellent protection

Anyone can get Long Covid, and your risk increases with each infection.

Even if your initial infection was “mild”, you could have long term damage to your vascular system, immune system, lungs and brain.

Repeat infections are NOT inevitable.

We CAN beat the pandemic together. But it involves collective effort. It involves acknowledging we’re still in a pandemic and “you do you” isn’t working. It involves caring about the air we share, and being willing to adapt.

Let’s make 2025 the year we can actually begin putting Covid in the past!

Continued thread

I will add that this exchange came AFTER I asked the host if everyone could take rapid covid tests beforehand.

Tbh, I feel like she allowed me one and only one accommodation. She already granted me the covid accommodation, so how dare I ask for another. 😕

I’m so curious about what causes this way of thinking. This person is suffering because they’ve had Covid twice, they currently work from home, and they’re considering just never seeing people in person ever again so they don’t get reinfected.

Then in the comments they admit they never wear a mask. So rather than wear a mask when they socialize they think they need to go full hermit, and it’s distressing enough to them that they’re going to reddit to ask about it. Yet they’ve never considered just wearing a mask.

What kind of mental illness is this??

Considering Going Full Hermit Zero Contact With Anyone to Prevent Reinfection. Thoughts!?
