Yesterday I bought the “Rayz’ Arcade Chronology”, on Switch, as it was on sale. Here is the first game of the collection: RayForce, a 2D vertical Shoot’Em Up from 1994 by Taito.
I never played it before, but it’s really great. There are a ton of neat graphics tricks. Sprite rotations, zooms and even per column scrolling.
And the gameplay is superb, with its locking missiles system 🙂

the screen I see most often in #raycrisis. sem-strut usually eats up all my ships and I inevitably miss a couple of them. that or I get to encroachment 100% and get the "bad" boss that I've yet to beat.

I should lean into save states. I have 4 available on lemuroid. I do wonder if the ray'z cronology has any...

Obscure Game 14:

This one is truly amazing.

The NewZealand Story is a platformer which is originally released for the arcades. I have played the PC Engine/Turbo Grafx-16 port of it and gosh what an experience it was!

The controls are fluid, the gameplay is simply stunning. Platforming does feel challenging but in a positive way.

Graphics complimenting it is simply breathtaking. Such breathtaking pixel art both of the environment and our character. One cannot stop being impressed by those.

I have always liked cute platformers and this game did not disappoint at all. I think there is something charming in controlling a cute character. Makes you feel cozy and warm. I have always been drawn to cute, more specifically kawaii, aesthetics. And this game fits to my sensibilities like a glove.

I have strong affinity towards cute games.

The soundtrack is nice too. It compliments the atmosphere.

Our main character is quite cute, a small, yellow kiwi bird (which is native to New Zealand/Aotearoa) called, Tiki. He is trying to save his girlfriend, Phee Phee, from leopard seal.

This game deserves your time and attention, and giving a chance to cute games that had been neglected by large is quite a charming experience in my opinion.

It is all the gaming about, sharing and finding hidden gems.
