Trump moves to gut more agencies, targeting Voice of America, libraries, clean energy and National Monuments

Trump has signed an executive order seeking to eliminate several additional federal agencies, including one that oversees the federally funded media outlet
⭐️Voice of America (VOA),
🔥testing the limits of his authoritative power as he seeks to shrink the size and scope of the federal bureaucracy.

One order signed Friday night calls for the agencies
— some of which are focused on #minority business enterprises, #museum and #library services and #homelessness prevention
— to “be eliminated to the maximum extent consistent with applicable law.”

It also instructs the heads of agencies to “reduce the performance of their statutory functions and associated personnel to the minimum presence and function required by law,”
and submit a report to the Office of Management and Budget director #Russell #Vought confirming full compliance within seven days.

A second executive order revoked 19 executive actions signed by President Joe Biden that promoted #clean #energy and environmental goals.

The order terminates proclamations of #national #monuments created by Biden
and ends the use of the Defense Production Act to expand the U.S. manufacturing of clean energy technology
(including mandates for electric heat pumps and #solar #panels),
among other Biden-era policies

@embiggenData Cannot stress often enough - Understand #Rump #trump #mus #vought #MAGA #GOP are liars. They #lie constantly, loudly, with bravado, and every media outlet panders to their every pronouncement report the #lies as #facts. #democracy is #difficult. It takes time, engagement, effort, hard work by all of us. We cannot simply accept the lies. We have to fight back with the truth constantly. Time consuming but folks will always take the easy route which now is to oblivion.

"President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed a sweeping executive order bringing independent agencies under the control of the White House — an action that would greatly expand his power but is likely to attract significant legal challenges.

It represents Trump’s latest attempt to consolidate power beyond boundaries other presidents have observed and to test the so-called unitary executive theory, which states that the president has the sole authority over the executive branch. And it reflects the influence of Russ Vought, Trump’s budget chief, one of several conservatives in his orbit who have called for axing independent arms of the executive branch.

The theory was long considered fringe, and many mainstream legal scholars still believe it is illegal, given that Congress set the agencies up specifically to act independently, or semi-independently, from the president. These include the Federal Communications Commission, the Federal Trade Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission, all of which enact regulations and can impose hefty fines on businesses that violate the rules."
