Could the #Shingles Vaccine help to prevent Dementia?

Neurotropic herpesviruses may be implicated in the development of #Dementia.

This study found that the zoster #vaccine reduced the probability of a new dementia diagnosis by approximately one-fifth over a seven-year follow-up period.

Despite the enormous health and economic impacts of #Alzheimer’s disease, effective treatments and preventative measures are lacking.

Emerging evidence such as this suggests that viruses in the herpes family that target and affect the nervous system might be involved in the development of Alzheimer’s disease.

'Study finds strongest evidence yet that shingles vaccine helps cut dementia risk'

"Health records of more than 280,000 older adults revealed that those who received a largely discontinued shingles vaccine called Zostavax were 20% less likely to be diagnosed with dementia over the next seven years than those who went without."

"a 20% reduction in dementia risk, with the strongest effect in women"

"Last year, Oxford researchers reported an even stronger protective effect in people who received Shingrix, a newer vaccine."

Extraordinary
“Although it is still unclear precisely how herpes zoster vaccination lowers the risk of dementia, the implications of the study are profound. The vaccine could represent a cost-effective intervention that has public-health benefits strongly exceeding its intended purpose.”

The
good news: A new study in Wales finds that older adults who received a #shingles #vaccine were 20% less likely to be diagnosed with #dementia.

The
even better news: That study related to the older and now mostly discontinued Zostavax vaccine. An Oxford study last year found that the currently-used Shingrix vaccine has an even stronger protective effect.

I'm the polar opposite of anti-vaxx. I'm a #VaxxtotheMax person.

I started nursing in the mid-70's & we were vaxxed for everything known to mankind. Felt a bit crook after the #smallpox but otherwise, not a problem.

Have had 7 #COVID19 vaxx without an issue (haven't had COVID as far as I know).

One #Shingles vaccine & 6 months to the day later, still suffering the side effects.

If you're considering #Shingrix please talk to your doc about side effects.

Last night I Tooted / Posted that I had Shingles and Influenza shots that morning, and felt woozy.
Managed to sleep overnight in only 3 stages (thank you water pill), and woke up at 05:57.
I had originally set my alarm for 05:00 to be at the church building at 06:00 for my hour of prayer. Obviously that's not happening, but I shall set aside time today to pray.
Other than running 2 weeks worth of laundry, the only other work I plan for today is for MissionAssist.
Otherwise I am totally resting up all day.
Take care of yourselves y'all.

Received shot no. 1 of my #Zoster #vaccination today - shot no. 2 comes in 11 weeks. No #Shingles please.

(Former) U.S. guidance seems to be to receive the vax at 50 years old in some states -- Germany standard is said to be 60 yrs of age. I'm getting mine a little early as my partner recently suffered through the year-end holidays and neither of us want to be back in that boat again 👿😡

I'm glad I got the #Shingles vaccine before #RFK starts banning it or doing something even more stupid...
...but man, those 2 doses indeed took me out for a solid 48hrs with fever/flu-like symptoms. Fortunately it cleared up on day 3 like clockwork. Highly, highly recommend getting it.
