"If you view vaccination as an individual choice and believe that anyone should be able to opt out for any reason at any time, then what you’re saying is that it’s okay to decide not to uphold your end of the social contract; that it’s okay to free-ride off of everyone else who actually did go get vaccinated."

She responds to CDC:

"The truth is, when it comes to public health, there really isn’t such a thing as a 'personal' or 'individual' choice — because every choice we make as individuals has implications for the health of those around us. Framing vaccination as an issue of 'personal choice' disregards the fact that choosing not to get vaccinated ultimately strips other people of their personal choice to stay healthy or to live a normal life."

Caroline Orr Bueno reports that ProPublica contacted the CDC to ask why it suppressed a report warning that the risk of measles is higher in areas near outbreaks where vaccination rates are lower.

CDC responded,

“The decision to vaccinate is a personal one." As Bueno notes, this echoes HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s own language about vaccination.

'Study finds strongest evidence yet that shingles vaccine helps cut dementia risk'

"Health records of more than 280,000 older adults revealed that those who received a largely discontinued shingles vaccine called Zostavax were 20% less likely to be diagnosed with dementia over the next seven years than those who went without."

"a 20% reduction in dementia risk, with the strongest effect in women"

"Last year, Oxford researchers reported an even stronger protective effect in people who received Shingrix, a newer vaccine."

Extraordinary
“Although it is still unclear precisely how herpes zoster vaccination lowers the risk of dementia, the implications of the study are profound. The vaccine could represent a cost-effective intervention that has public-health benefits strongly exceeding its intended purpose.”

www.nature.comCould the shingles vaccine help to prevent dementia?Large-scale analyses of electronic health data suggest that the herpes zoster vaccine could protect against dementia — but it’s not yet clear how.

I notice that the practice of announcing you've had a vaccination on the Fediverse (via what I see from the people I follow) has all but died out.

I think it's good visibility to keep showing support for getting vaccinated against COVID19 (and measles / MMR!), and may serve as a reminder that it's time again for your next vaccination.

Just got vaccination number 10, Pfizer KP.2 aka "Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty"

I noticed that the Apple Health application no longer accepts scanning the QR code provided by Ontario in the proof-of-vaccination PDF receipt.

Also, they now show two QR codes side by side, as they say it's too much information for a single QR code. But Apple Health app accepts neither. Apple denial!
