this looks SO MUCH better than the equivalent phone picture would have done

maximum zoom of the Wren facade of Hampton Court Palace, can't really see much because there are trees in the way, but it demonstrates the point; individual windows are visible at 2.3 kilometres

peering down at a little bit of thames that's visible between trees and houses at this rather unnecessary angle

St Andrew's church in Surbiton. there's some more dramatic fading into the mist in this direction and the church appears to be mostly surrounded by trees, like a forest (at ground level is is not actually). at one mile away, the brickwork and bell vents are clearly visible

the long water in Hampton Court Park. someone is visible dragging a golf caddy on the far side of it. this is a bit under 2km away

pointing north from the same position frames some outside stairs leading down from the balcony, college roundabout and the new Royal Quarter are visible through the square archway

tall buildings in some other part of London (no idea which) are visible framed by a glass exit on the north side of the cafe at the top, faded to blue in the distance; we didn't go out that side because it wasn't clear if it was a balcony or just a fire exit

looking down the steps to the north towards college roundabout; there are vines on the concrete here that make the place feel very friendly for a brutalist design

the chimney with the birbs is to the right

St Raphael's church on Portsmouth Road, seen from above and behind, backgrounded by Hampton Court Park (river in between is hidden)

some birbs sit on a chimney that reaches just above the horizon line, sticking up from the Council palace

zoomed-out view looking west from the balcony on top of the Town House, half sky and half town. a university building across the road is below, the former Council palace is to the right (with the chimney with birbs), and St Raphael's is kinda clipped off at the far left. you can't see my house from here

trying out a new (* second hand) camera and playing with zoom

so you can actually go on the roof of the KU Town House, which contains the university library - it's free access for all without an ID, including the top level, nice location for viewing Kingston

we're going up there --v

the facade of Kingston University Town House from ground level, a clear blue sky on a sunny day, not many people around, the award-winning building has an open concrete grid of right angles with vines growing down its verticals, and huge glass windows set back behind the balconies and columns
