My first drive with the European Magic Earth incl. Apple Carplay integration went well. The voice telling me where to drive is a bit on the slow side - a "1.25x" switch would be cool. Apart from that it works well.

Also checked their web page; seems they make the "public app" free and make their money from businesses using their service, so this is not the google business model where you pay with your data.

#CarPlay is still not a thing for #AppleDeveloper Enterprise Accounts, right?

To continue on the theme of car use with phones, I’d really be tempted to move away from dependency on American phone platforms, in the current climate. In other words most likely @jolla #Sailfish.

But lack of #Carplay would be a massive drawback I might not easily be OK with (this is why we need open standards). But also lack of Jeep app, EV charging apps (until we get ubiquitous acceptance of payment cards).

I find it disturbing that #car #infotainment systems are basically closed systems. We should be demanding an open spec for providing phone-powered car apps (#Carplay / #AndroidAuto).

The current setup creates a lock-in for the duopoly that exists in the phone ecosystem. It also means being unable to update the infotainment system when it inevitably ages.

My youngest #car is a 2016. None of them have any kind of connection to the internet. I dread buying any reasonably recent car.

#GM announced that they won’t support #CarPlay or Android Auto in new vehicles. And now #Stellantis is shoving ads into your dashboard.

And then there’s that guy who found a dealership putting GPS trackers into vehicles they sold.

Anyone else notice that playlists that contain iTunes Match/uploaded content do not display on #AppleMusic for #CarPlay in the “recently played” section?

I’m in the car and my #iphone is connected to #carplay. I took a screenshot of something on the phone and a screenshot of my car stereo ended up in my photos. So cool.

I won’t buy a car without #Apple #CarPlay but the rental #Jeep implementation that letter & pillar boxes the display has me questioning my assumptions. #Ford just puts an app icon to exit to the car UI, the correct decision.

Hopefully GM, who provides the base platform, is going to ask why their own vehicles are not considered to be as good.
