Colonial control ain't a thing of the past—it’s alive and well in places like the #WestBank and #Gaza. In this short video, Indigenous historian and artist Gord Hill breaks down how settler states—from Canada to Israel—use the same old tactics: divide, isolate, and dominate.

Same playbook, different lands.

And hey—support the film and get a keffiyeh as a thank-you. Details at the link.|

From Wounded Knee to #Gaza Same War, Different Lands

In this clip, Indigenous artist and historian #GordHill draws powerful parallels between the violent foundations of settler colonialism in North America and the ongoing military occupation of Palestine. Reflecting on phases of colonization—from invasion to occupation to cultural suppression—he maps how #Indigenousresistance has been violently subdued on Turtle Island and how that same process is still unfolding in #Palestine today.

🔥 They stole the land. They bombed the beaches. They poisoned the water. But the people of #Vieques fought back—and they won.

For 60 years, the U.S. Navy used Vieques as a war playground, displacing families and turning paradise into a toxic wasteland. The people resisted with blockades, occupations, and mass disobedience—until they forced the empire to back down.

But colonialism doesn’t end when the soldiers leave. The land is still fenced off, contaminated, stolen. Sound familiar? #Gaza. Kanien’kehá:ka lands. Different places, same colonial script.

They want us to accept displacement as normal. We never will.

#Greenpeace on Trial: $300M Lawsuit over #StandingRock #Protests Could Shutter Group & Chill #FreeSpeech

#DemocracyNow, March 04, 2025

"A closely watched civil trial that began in #NorthDakota last week could bankrupt Greenpeace and chill #EnvironmentalActivism as the climate crisis continues to deepen. The multimillion-dollar lawsuit by #EnergyTransfer, the oil corporation behind the #DakotaAccessPipeline, claims Greenpeace organized the mass protests and encampment at Standing Rock between 2016 and 2017 aimed at stopping construction of the project.

"Although the uprising at Standing Rock was led by #Indigenous #WaterDefenders, Energy Transfer is instead going after Greenpeace for $300 million in damages — an amount that could effectively shutter the group’s U.S. operations. 'This case is not just an obvious and blatant erasure of #IndigenousLeadership, of #IndigenousResistance,' says Deepa Padmanabha, a senior legal adviser for #GreenpeaceUSA. 'It is an attack on the broader movement and all of our First Amendment rights to free speech and #PeacefulProtest.'"

Democracy Now! · Greenpeace on Trial: $300M Lawsuit over Standing Rock Protests Could Shutter Group & Chill Free SpeechBy Democracy Now!

Leonard Peltier’s release after 49 years of wrongful imprisonment resonates deeply within anti-colonial struggles, particularly when compared to the systematic incarceration of Palestinians under Israeli military rule. Both cases exemplify how settler-colonial states use imprisonment as a tool of repression against Indigenous resistance.

Peltier, an Anishinaabe-Lakota activist and member of the American Indian Movement (AIM), was convicted in 1977 for the killing of two FBI agents during a 1975 shootout on the Pine Ridge Reservation. His trial was riddled with misconduct, including fabricated evidence, coerced witnesses, and prosecutorial misconduct. The U.S. government made him a political prisoner, punishing him not for any proven crime, but for his role in defending Indigenous sovereignty. His nearly five decades behind bars symbolize the criminalization of Indigenous resistance in North America.

Similarly, Israel systematically imprisons Palestinians, especially those engaged in resistance against occupation. Since 1967, over 800,000 Palestinians—including activists, political leaders, and children—have been detained under military rule. Many are held without charge under "administrative detention," a practice that allows indefinite imprisonment without trial. Just as Peltier was targeted for his role in AIM, Palestinians are arrested for organizing protests, resisting land seizures, or even posting anti-occupation statements online.

Both cases highlight how settler-colonial powers use incarceration to neutralize Indigenous movements. The U.S. government sought to break AIM through the imprisonment of Peltier, just as Israel aims to weaken Palestinian resistance by jailing its leaders and youth. The goal in both cases is not justice, but deterrence—turning prisons into tools of colonial control.

Yet, despite decades of imprisonment, neither Peltier nor Palestinian political prisoners have been silenced. Their struggles continue to inspire movements for decolonization, Indigenous sovereignty, and global solidarity against settler oppression. This is exactly what we seek to unpack in A Red Road to the West Bank—the shared tools of repression used by colonial states and the enduring spirit of resistance that connects Indigenous struggles across continents.

#Havasupai Tribe Deeply Disappointed in #NavajoNation for Failing to Consult Havasupai on #Radioactive Hauling

"Shame on Energy Fuels Resources and those who were not brave enough to do what is right and necessary." -- Havasupai Tribe.

By Brenda Norrell, Censored News, Feb. 14, 2025

"The Havasupai Tribe said the Navajo Nation has disregarded the aboriginal people who live on the land, and failed to consult them before entering into a dangerous agreement for #radioactive #uranium hauling. There are two trucks now each weekday, traveling at high rates of speed, each carrying 24 tons of radioactive matter that is only covered with tie-down tarps from the Grand Canyon to the #UraniumMill in Utah.

"Havsuw' Baaja, Havasupai, are Guardians of the #GrandCanyon and have opposed #UraniumMining since time immemorial to protect their land and water for future generations, the Havasupai Tribe said today.

"We are deeply disappointed in #EnergyFuels Resources, Inc., and the Navajo Nation for not including us in their discussions that ultimately led to the dangerous decision to allow hauling of radioactive material across our aboriginal lands," the Havasupai Tribe said.

"The Navajo Tribe is not the only tribe or community affected by this activity."
"Our culture and traditions originate here and are knit together with who we are as individual tribal members and as a tribe."

"Who negotiated these terms?"

"Who came up with the amount of $1.2 million."

"We are still fighting the U.S. government for what happened to our people." The response from the federal government is, 'Well that happened a long time ago, that happened during World War II.'

"If we already know the effects of uranium, why are we allowing this?"

Navajo Council delegates are questioning Navajo Department of Justice, questioning the agreement by Navajo President Buu Nygren with Energy Fuels, without the Navajo Nation Council's approval.

🚨 Alert: #RadioactiveUranium Trucks on the #NavajoNation Today (2/12)

"A banner on the deadly haul route today, Wednesday, as two radioactive uranium transport trucks pass by Dine' homes in #TubaCity on the Navajo Nation. #Dine' families said they had no warning and the #NavajoGovernment sold them out."

TUBA CITY, Navajo Nation -- "#EnergyFuels #radioactive #UraniumWaste trucks passed through the Navajo Nation today, following a secretive agreement between the Navajo Nation and Energy Fuels.

"Two radioactive uranium waste trucks passed through #TubaCity headed to the uranium mill in the #WhiteMesaUte community, between 11 a.m. and noon today.

"In a region still strewn with #RadioactiveWaste from the #ColdWar, and gas and oil wells choking the people -- now uranium waste being transported by Dine' homes with only a tarp [!!!] covering tons of radioactive waste. The trucks are dumping their loads in the White Mesa #Ute community at the mill in southeastern #Utah.

"The secretive agreement between Energy Fuels and the Navajo Nation government, says there will be two to twelve trucks a day with radioactive waste from Energy Fuels #PinyonPlain #UraniumMine in the #GrandCanyon, for the next three to four years.

"Navajo Utah Commission members voiced their opposition to the uranium transport during a meeting with Navajo Nation EPA Executive Director #StephenEtsitty in #WindowRock on Tuesday. This comes after Energy Fuels made a public announcement of the agreement with the tribe.

"The Navajo Utah Commission meeting revealed that Energy Fuels agreed to pay the Navajo Nation government $1.2 million during the negotiations. Dine' in Western Navajo said that Navajo President #BuuNygren showed them how much money their lives are worth: $1.2 million."

#NavajoNation Dishonors Legacy of #KleeBenally: Agrees to #Uranium Transport Through #Navajo Communities

By #BrendaNorrell, #CensoredNews, February 3, 2025

"The Navajo Nation dishonored the memory and legacy of Klee Benally by agreeing to allow radioactive uranium trucks to travel through the Navajo Nation. It was what Klee spent the last years of his life fighting against.

"The deadly trucks from the #EnergyFuels #PinyonPlain uranium mine in the #GrandCanyon will pass through the #Havasupai's homeland, and then past the homes of #Paiute, #Dine' and #Hopi in Arizona before reaching the dumping ground: The Energy Fuels #UraniumMill in the #WhiteMesaUte Community in Southern #Utah.

"Klee is being honored with a #NuclearFreeFutures Award in New York in March.

"Nuclear Free Futures said, in announcing the award, 'Klee Benally was a Navajo activist and musician and member of the Navajo #Tódichiinii Clan and the #Nakai #Diné Clan. In addition to a
musical career with his siblings in the band #Blackfire,

"'Klee was a passionate campaigner and filmmaker exposing the #colonialist legacy of uranium mines and working for the cleanup of the more than 500 abandoned uranium mines that continue to contaminate the Navajo Nation. A month before his death on December 30, 2023, Klee published his book, '#NoSpiritualSurrender: #IndigenousAnarchy in Defense of the Sacred.'

"The award will be accepted by his mother Berta Benally.

"Klee, co-founder of #HaulNo!, warned of the danger to the water and rivers from the uranium mining in the Grand Canyon, and the planned deadly transport of radioactive ore, before he passed in
December 2023: 'There is possible radioactive contamination to land, water, and air from the #CanyonMine, White
Mesa Mill, and transport of uranium would impact northern Arizona, southeast Utah, the #ColoradoRiver, #MoenkopiWash, the #SanJuanRiver, and the lands and cultural resources of the #Havasupai, Hopi, Navajo, Ute, and Paiute peoples.'"
