#Ubisoft forces players to stay #online even for single-player games, #tracking #data like playtime and #game launches. Despite no clear consent or necessity, they collect personal information for "improving game experience" via third-party tools. No valid legal basis under #GDPR for such actions.

"Amidst the chaos and upheaval at the Social Security Administration (SSA) caused by Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), employees have now been asked to integrate the use of a generative AI chatbot into their daily work.

But before any of them can use it, they all need to watch a four-minute training video featuring an animated, four-fingered woman crudely drawn in a style that would not look out of place on websites created in the early part of this century.

Aside from the Web 1.0-era graphics employed, the video also fails at its primary purpose of informing SSA staff about one of the most important aspects of using the chatbot: Do not use any personally identifiable information (PII) when using the assistant."

"In the wake of the pandemic, schools in the European Union have increasingly begun to implement digital services for online learning. While these modernisation efforts are a welcome development, a small number of big tech companies immediately tried to dominate the space – often with the intention of getting children used to their systems and creating a new generation of future “loyal” customers. "Today, noyb filed a complaint against the French video game developer and publisher Ubisoft (known for Assassins Creed, Far Cry, Prince of Persia). The company forces its customers to connect to the internet every time they launch a single player game. This is the case even if the game doesn’t have any online features. This allows Ubisoft to collect people’s gaming behaviour. Among other things, the company collects data about when you start a game, for how long you play it and when you close it. Even after the complainant explicitly asked why he is forced to be online, Ubisoft failed to disclose why this is going on. Under Article 6(1) GDPR, there seems to be no valid legal basis to randomly collect such user data."
