I would also love any experts who give food & nutrition advice to do the following:
- Calculate a month of wages at minimum wage;
- Deduct taxes, etc.;
- Deduct local average accommodation costs;
- Now inform us how exactly someone can buy the food you're recommending on the money that's left.
Oh. So it's not "public health" it's "public health for those who can pay to play [and the rest are on their own]. Got it.
(I'm tired how divorced from reality so much "advice" is in any context.) 3/n
@ShaulaEvans I always liked Jack Munroe's food advocacy and cookbooks, with her firsthand experience of poverty. She would cite things like electricity cost in cooking time vs buying tins etc., shining a light on things I wouldn't have considered.
@philbetts Me, too! I used to follow her on Twitter. I hope she'll join Mastodon one day.
@ShaulaEvans yup. And often it's ok advice just completely misguided. "Just grow your own vegetables in your garden!" Which basement apartments have crop space specifically?
