An unnamed 'senior' Labour backbencher (quoted in the Guardian) on the prospective cuts to welfare, echos concerns expressed here (and elsewhere):
'We are a rich country but we have lots of poorer people. Do not target stuff at the poorest and most vulnerable. There are others ways of doing it'!
Well there may be other ways but Rachel Reeves seems unwilling to countenance them....
@ChrisMayLA6 But isn't it all just wild speculation and opinion? No-one will know the details until the actual budget.
Well, the cuts are being pretty clearly signposted by Ministers & Reeves herself....
I don't think I've ever felt more pessimistic and more angry about the UK as I do now. It feels like we're being thrown to the lions.
It's relentless.
@MadeyeTheCarnaptious @ChrisMayLA6
They seem to think if they don't call it Austerity and say "working people" all the time, nobody will notice what they are doing.
Let's face it, it's the permanent state of affairs in the UK (at least in England). The population has been battered into submission.
@MadeyeTheCarnaptious @ChrisMayLA6
It's dire. The only thing I can think of to do is eat curry and grow food.
@ChrisMayLA6 lucky we got rid of that loony corbyn, and then purged the left wing from the labour party though... really dodged a bullet there
@ChrisMayLA6 we know where the money is, just need some mettle to shake it loose.
If labour dont tackle the inequality, they pave the way for more right wing / fascist incursions into government / parliament.
@ChrisMayLA6
Perhaps it will come down to how many socialists with a conscience are left in the labour party and of them how many will dare to cross Starmer.
@ChrisMayLA6 In the US, they call it starving the beast... but what if it's just people in dire need of assistance, not receiving help, unable to adequately recover?!
Austerity reflects Britain's steadfast commitment to nobility and serfdom.
