Emeritus Prof Christopher May

As Nigel Rumfitt KC points out (in a letter to the Guardian):

'The sole cause of the present mess [in the justice system] is the refusal by successive governments, from New Labour through the coalition to the Tories, to fund the system properly. In particular, the repeated cuts to public funding of barristers & solicitors have led to an exodus from the criminal courts'!

Juryless trials & summary judgments are not the answer; proper funding is needed; justice isn't/cannot be cheap

@ChrisMayLA6 The UK's unwillingness to pay properly for anything is the root cause of its problems.

The UK needs a fortune spent on it in order to upgrade it to an adequate standard.

The chances of this happening? Zero.

@djm_black

Yes, this is a conclusion that I have also come to.... we want a Rolls Royce for the cost of a mini.... if you wanted an example of how this plays out, look no further than TK Maxx
