Stellantis will close its Luton Vauxhall plant (putting up to 1,100 workers out of work, unless they move to Ellesmere Port where operations are to be consolidated) & blames the Electric Vehicle quota, which they think they will be unable to meet at current level of EV demand.
However, as Stellantis had already started to upgrade Ellesmere Port to enhance productivity around EVs, one cannot help but wonder if this is smokescreen for a 'normal' corporate decision?

Of course, it is
@ChrisMayLA6 Absolutely. Consolidate to save money, then throw shade on the EV adoption plans so that the public thinks its the governments fault.
@ChrisMayLA6 If there is inadequate EV demand then maybe
(1) this is a Good Thing, insofar as "to many cars" is a problem, and an EV is still a car, and/or
(2) it simply shows that the manufacturer is making a product which the punters aren't buying because they regard it as crap - that's a Must Try Harder for the people complaining about the level of demand.
I'm going to go with B).... not least of all as the Chinese (particularly MG seem to be ding just fine)
