A major part of the housing crisis is the need for temporary accommodation for families who for whatever reason have become homeless.

But, it is also notable that last year while the number of families in this situation rose by 28% (to 56,000), the costs of housing them in temporary accommodation (B&Bs & shirt term private rentals) rose by 78% (to £732m);

there's money to be made in a crisis & its clear whose making it!

This is why we need more social housing!

Social housing essentially pays for itself - due to 'ring fencing' - while the costs of temporary accommodation fall on the main council budget. So one way of easing financial strains on local authorities is to promote social housing. Unfortunately this argument does not necessarily appeal to some of the people running the #labourparty !
