Al Green. Take me to the River

Al Green always worked at the borders of soul, gospel & the blues, and this great groove is a good (if lesser known) example of his sound. This has a lovely funky feel with great horns & a solid rhythm section driving it forward.... and if it sounds familiar you may have heard Talking Heads, good if less supple cover version.

Also covered by Talking Heads, as I'm sure you know. I've always had a soft spot for the live version on Stop Making Sense.

Yes, Stop Making Sense is just brilliant, watch it around once a year....
