I've heard some very kind words about my translations of old fiction in settings that were old or fairy-taleish even at the time when these pieces were written. This is not surprising since I've spent 33 years writing about the distant past.
But if you asked me to translate fiction written by a Gen Z author about her contemporaries, I would refuse.
Translating patents does weird things to the brain. There are just so many times you can type "swivel/swiveling" before it stops looking like a word. And now I've typed it twice more.
