I must admit I'm surprised. I came across some #statistics outlining there are more gay #men than #women in the #UK.

Almost twice as many in fact, and even adding in #bisexuality it still tilts that way.

Why am I surprised? Well it's simply because it doesn't match my experience.

Over my six decades, I've met dozens of women who were in same-sex #relationships but only four or five men.

I can think of many possible reasons for the discrepancy, but it still feels wrong.

It's very hard to discount your own #experience as atypical. We're hardwired to think we're a representative sample :ollie_smile:

Welcomes #AdultContent (discussion of #sexuality , some explicit materials, #kink, and #polyamory )

Welcomes social commentary (I think she means #leftist #politics )

She's never used Mastodon before, and is not particularly tech savvy (so no infosec-opensource-foss-whatever focused servers, please), but like most of us who ended up here, she's tired of the fascist censorship and coddling of mainstream social media platforms, and wants to find a place she can connect with others without having to constantly look over her shoulder for nazis and/or algorithmic censorship.

She also didn't mention character count, but as a writer (and person who enjoys engaging in nuanced conversation instead of screaming click bait headlines), something more than the default 500 characters would be nice as well. 😊
