#UnpopularOpinion: Iron Man 3 was the dumbest and most pointless #IronMan film of the #RDJ era, possibly the dumbest film of the #Marvel golden age (2008ish-2020ish?)
First of all, you have the ridiculous trope/conceit that his suits suddenly start to just fall apart at the slightest touch. Umm, what? This is Iron Man. This is an F-16 in a suitcase. This is a bulletproof, missileproof suit. Sir, this is a Wendy's.
Then, the idea that a single missile would take out his entire Malibu house after he tussled with the Chitauri. Umm, what? He's just gonna give out his home address, and not prepare for anything? No automated defenses? His ex girlfriend had to alert him to the chopper on the video screen?!? WHAT THE L!!!??! What did he think the Mandarin was going to do, just give out his address to the Jehovah's Witnesses? Buy him a prank subscription to Horny Porkers magazine*? WHAT!
Also, Ben Kingsley was marvelous, as Ben Kingsley is always marvelous, but his talents were seriously wasted on that goofy role (which is perhaps just what he wanted, you never know).
I liked the idea of Extremis, and the kid was kinda endearing, although the trope of the jilted-nerd-turned-supervillain is SO tired. And can we be thankful that Marvel finally made Tony a family man after this? DUDE, man-sluts are not endearing. At all. "Genius Billionaire Playboy Philanthropist?" Give me a break. (Yes, I know that last line was from Avengers (2012))
*NO, do NOT look that up. I seriously do not want to know if that's a real magazine. STOP.
