Last night, in a desperate attempt to get my mind off all the insanity, I started a new image so my brain would stop grinding and I could focus on something constructive.

It’s a challenging thing right now to keep creating, to keep inventing, to keep adding to the fabric of the universe to counteract all the bad. I think of it as a sort of artistic duty to keep making, to counter the evils that are so proud right now with some sort of antidote…

It’s important to remember not to retreat into complete escapism and turn a blind eye. But it is also important to try to feed and sustain the soul and heart that’s being injured and bruised.

For me, trying to create in the face of so much hate is sometimes the only aspect of agency I feel I have. It’s one of the few things I can control right now. So I’m not going to stop doing it.

Don’t let them make you feel your creativity is just a simple diversion or distraction from reality, and that you should be doing other more substantive things. It is more than that. it’s your responsibility to “add" when so many are “subtracting". It’s what you can do better than anyone else.

“Midnight Madness”

It took a little longer than the others but in the end I’m glad it did.

Now normally, I would move on to another small project that would incorporate the new skills/techniques I’ve acquired. However this time I think I’m going to keep at it. I’m throughly enjoying just making backgrounds and following along to instructionals.

(I have to mention, all of these illustrations I’ve made are based off the teachings of YouTuber James Julier. He’s great at instructing you through the process.)

Here a sneek peek at the latest background art I’m working. This one is quite a step up in terms of context and the different techniques I’ve never used for digital. It’s coming along though, and I’m already super happy with it! Hopefully I’ll be able to post up the finished version this afternoon!

The image is a small snippet of a larger coloured digital background illustration of a forest scene. A large red and yellow blood moon peppered with dark red craters and brilliant white impact spots. It is haloed by an eerie red haze. An ominous dark castle type structure juts off the far right side of the image, the base surrounded and hidden by trees a nd foliage, while turrets point upward, silhouetted in-front the large blood moon. To the centre and left of the castle is a series of trees, the ones far off in the background are lighter in their bluish colour and slightly blurry. While the foreground trees are a deep dark blue, the details of individual branches are seen as well as the speckling of leaves.

Cosmic Lion

Hi!

I'm Eli (any pronouns), I've been making backup accounts in a few sites just in case Tumblr gets nuked and I came across the Fediverse, I still don't understand much of it or how it works so I hope I'm doing this right. This does look like the closest thing to Tumblr though, so I'll probably be slowly posting all my art from there here just to be safe. In the meantime I'm still more active there ( also @/cosmiclion), for all its faults that hellsite is still my home and the only way I'll fully switch to here is if it gets burned to the ground and I get kicked out and have the door slammed on my face.

I like to draw and occassionally take photos :D I also like to write sometimes but not as often, I don't know how writers do it but honestly mad respect.
Currently hyperfixating on Black Butler and Yuri!!! On Ice but will post original art and concepts and fanart of other things I'm into.
I'm a bigass furry but I draw all kinds of characters (the lion is my fursona btw!).
Also keep in mind that I'm an adult and I enjoy making NSFW art often.
