I love trees. "April Prayer" by Stuart Kestenbaum celebrates what they're up to this time of year in my part of the world. An excerpt from ayearofbeinghere.com/2015/04/s

"Just before the green begins there is the hint of green
a blush of color, and the red buds thicken
the ends of the maple’s branches and everything
is poised before the start of a new world,
which is really the same world"

On 1 March, Bulgarians celebrate the beginning of spring with the tradition of #Marteniza. On this day, friends and family members exchange red and white threads or small dolls known as martenizas. These are worn until the first #Stork or blossoming tree is seen, then they are tied to a #Tree. The red and white colours symbolise health and happiness.

Today

I was born, and live
where I have never belonged,
and long to return;
will the same stars guide my way,
as blessed us, in our shared dreams?

Gods of night, hear me:
if I must live, far, in time
and place, from my home –
let me reach past boundaries,
to touch my ancient love's heart.
