Defiance!

This compilation of performances on British TV show "The Old Grey Whistle Test" features performances during the term of the show's second host, Annie Nightingale, from 1978-1982.

Amazing series of great bands, one after another. So many trailblazing performances, it's impossible to pick a favorite (The Rezillos come close, that's for sure).

Thanks to @greenhombre for sharing this. And for pointing out the cool story Rhoda Dakar tells near the end. 🤩

Eine meiner ersten Singles und die Älteste, die noch in meinem Besitz ist, war „Kids In America“ von Kim Wilde. Das Debüt der britischen Sängerin erschien 1981 und wurde von ihrem Vater Marty Wilde, der in den 1950er und 1960er ein bekannter Musiker war, und ihrem jüngeren Bruder Ricky Wilde geschrieben. Ricky war schon in den 1970ern Jahren ein Kinderstar und trat nach der Entdeckung seiner Schwester in den Hintergrund. Zuvor war Kim Backgroundsängerin für ihren Bruder und wurde so vom Chef der Plattenfirma RAK entdeckt. Ihr weiterer Weg dürfte bekannt sein.

"I Ran (So Far Away)", also released as "I Ran", is a song by English #newWave band #AFlockOfSeagulls. It was released in 1982 as their third single and it was the second single from their self-titled debut album. It topped the chart in #Australia, and reached number seven in #NewZealand and number nine in the #UnitedStates. It was not successful in #Europe and only reached number 31 in #Germany. In the band's home country of the #UnitedKingdom it reached number 43.
