#Endemic

I'm gonna need ppl to understand that when they hear #endemic ... that is not a GOOD thing.
You do not want a pathogen continuously circulating in your area.
#Smallpox used to be endemic and it was BAD.
#Polio was endemic and it was BAD.
#TB was pandemic and in some parts of the world it still is, and that's BAD.
These are things I never thought I'd have to say before #Covid ... and needing to say them now is BAD.

MYOTIS NIMBAENSIS (mausohr) found 4 years ago in the nimba mountains, threatened with extinction
acrylic painting 40x40cm 2022
info: The genus Myotis is a diverse group of vespertilionid bats found on nearly every continent. One clade in this group, the subgenus Chrysopteron, is characterized by reddish to yellowish fur and, in some cases, visually striking dichromatic wing pigmentation. Here, we describe a new dichromatic species of Myotis (Chrysopteron) from the Nimba Mountains in Guinea. The new species is superficially similar to Myotis welwitschii, but phylogenetic analyses based on cytochrome b data indicated that it is actually more closely related to M. tricolor. Discovery of this new taxon increases the number of Myotis species known from mainland Africa to 11 species, although patterns of molecular divergence suggest that cryptic species in the Chrysopteron clade remain to be described. This discovery also highlights the critical importance of the Nimba Mountains as a center of bat diversity and endemism in sub-Saharan Africa.

There's #news going around that #WasteWaterLevels will be reset, so that the CURRENT levels are considered #Zero. Not ACTUAL zero. That it's #endemic and #NothingCanBeDone about it.

Borneo's mountains reveal a #NewSpecies of #orangutan-colored giant pitcher plant phys.org/news/2024-12-borneo-m

#Sabah’s hidden giant: #Nepenthes pongoides, a micro-#endemic tropical #PitcherPlant from northern #Borneo. By Alviana Damit et al. publish.csiro.au/BT/BT24050

"The purpose of the pitcher is to capture both rainfall and insects... This newest species was found able to grow to 45 centimeters and to hold over two liters of water."

This photograph is of the Calafate fruit. This fruit is native to Chilean and Argentine Patagonia, it is a thorny bush with evergreen leaves. Ancestrally, the calafate has been collected and used by communities due to its medicinal properties and high nutritional value.
This fruit is a true symbol of places like Punta Arenas and Aysén, in Chile. Whoever eats calafate, will return.
I hope to return.

"The surprise discovery of flesh-eating #ulcers hundreds of kilometres from existing case clusters has sparked concerns it has become entrenched in another state.

Buruli ulcer has been known to occur in #Australia since the 1940s with cases noted in the #NorthernTerritory and #Queensland’s far north.

Researchers are intrigued by a surge in #Victoria, where a case is reported nearly every day, and its emergence in a southern #NSW coastal town."

Dairy and/ or biodiversity?
Shadeless ungulates cook at extreme temperatures

"Even for the “greenest” dairy farmer, however, strong convictions about the morality of using land for food production will limit how much native biodiversity is acceptable on farm." >>

"Globally, agriculture is a dominant land use, with approximately 40% of the Earth's ice-free land managed by farmers and herders...When natural habitats are cleared for agriculture, most native biodiversity is lost...Habitat loss and fragmentation are compounded by the impacts of chemical inputs, invasive species and climate change on what little native biodiversity remains in agricultural landscapes... There are increasing calls to incorporate native biodiversity into farming systems." >>

I'm really tired reading these obtrusive and accusing comments EVERY fckng DAY!
I don't believe in any gov't narratives and I don't believe that is over, just as tuberculosis and influenza isn't over and in other parts of the world malaria and even plague isn't over, but .
Feel free to regard covid as still dangerous pandemic disease, but, please, don't bother the whole world. You're free to wear a mask everywhere you go, but, please, let me decide for myself!
