Emeritus Prof Christopher May<p>Even <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/centralbankers" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>centralbankers</span></a> cannot continue to ignore the evidence on <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/greedflation" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>greedflation</span></a>, especially when its their own.</p><p>A recent BoE survey concluded firms continue to 'rebuild' their margins even as their costs fall.</p><p>As Sharon Graham (Unite) puts it: </p><p>The BoE 'has been attacking workers’ wages while downplaying corporate profiteering... Now [their] own analysis supports what Unite has argued all along about inflation. Companies are raising prices simply to boost their own profit margins'!</p>
Emeritus Prof Christopher May<p>When I see the commentators or <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/centralbankers" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>centralbankers</span></a> taking about whether a <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/recession" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>recession</span></a> is necessary, whatever the costs of <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/inflation" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>inflation</span></a> to the general populace I wonder if they have any idea of the social costs to wellbeing & economic stability for#workers that a recession can cause... of course they (those talking about the necessity of recession) will claim its a 'price worth paying' to tame inflation; but I notice its not a price they ever seem to pick up themselves....</p>

But, they seldom seem troubled by the <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/profits" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>profits</span></a> rise-<a href="https://zirk.us/tags/inequality" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>inequality</span></a> spiral, which has reduced workers share of overall surplus over the last decades, and of course lies behind <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/strikes" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>strikes</span></a> to counter the <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/costoflivingcrises" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>costoflivingcrises</span></a>. </p><p>Its time for central banks to (re)think how they understand the pressures in the (global) system! </p><p>(plot spoiler: they won't!)</p>
