Institute for Iranian Studies<p>We have a new publication in our Iranian Studies Monographs (Veröffentlichungen zur Iranistik) series! "Hybrid Judeo-Persian and Arabic Correspondence: Eight Documents from the Cairo Genizah" provides new editions of critical historic documents.</p><p>The Cairo Genizah contains many thousands of documents from the Egyptian Jewish community produced over the centuries: some of the more difficult parts of the collection are documents in Arabic (sometimes Arabic written in Hebrew script), and Judeo-Persian written in Hebrew script. This book publishes new editions of eight documents in this category from around 1000AD, showing elements of mercantile life in Cairo a millennium ago and how different languages were used and interacted.</p><p>More details at:<br><a href="https://verlag.oeaw.ac.at/en/product/hybrid-judeo-persian-and-arabic-correspondence/99200916" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">verlag.oeaw.ac.at/en/product/h</span><span class="invisible">ybrid-judeo-persian-and-arabic-correspondence/99200916</span></a></p><p><a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/Jewish" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Jewish</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/IranianStudies" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IranianStudies</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/Egypt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Egypt</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/Cairo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Cairo</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/Medieval" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Medieval</span></a></p>
