You can’t understand the current political moment without understanding that a lot of nominally left-wing people and causes have been enlisted in the defense of extremely reactionary projects. Fight for the Future, and creator of a song called Surveil-Jance Capitalism" that purports to be inspired by and about the same issues outlined by Zuboff-urged followers to contact their congressional representatives by stating that "decentralization is our best bet for having a future internet thats not based on surveillance capitalism and where people have basic rights. Cryptocurrencies are just sort of the tip of the iceberg, messy (and often scammy) proofs of concept for something much more important" (Greer 2021b). Zuboff's argument is turned upside-down and played against itself, so that the specific ideology, practices, tech-nologies, and even entities that brought us to where we are today, we are told, are the solutions to the problem they have created. Greer misstates the stakes of the bill, contending that compelling wealthy people who profit from cryptocurrency trading to pay taxes would interfere with "an internet that's not based on surveillance capitalism." Some commentators pushed back on Greer and asked for detailed explanations for why we should accept any of the propositions offered, but no explanations were forthcoming.

But the specific way the author frames Stephen's PTSD in-universe really put me off. But I did enjoy both Grace and Stephen as characters.
