Hi guys, I'm a totally #Blind woman interested in learning French to start with. In coming back to #Duolingo, I found that the first thing you have to do right off the bat is "choose the correct image". You can choose based on the audio you are hearing, absolutely, but you have no way of actually knowing what the so-called correct image actually is, making it pretty much impossible from an accessibility standpoint to know what words are being introduced and/or what they mean in English. Does anyone know of a good language learning app that is actually accessible? #A11y #technology #Language #French #Learning #Screenreader

With all the changes going on at RNIB I’ve started looking into NFB UK but I’ve no idea how effective it is. Are many other #blind, #PartiallySighted or #Deafblind people in the UK on here members of it, and what do you think of it as an organisation?

I don't mind if hourly $thing bot maintainers don't want to bother with image descriptions. I'm also not upset with people in general not bothering even tho that will make me not repost.

But people that will maliciously include misleading and/or useless descriptions in their posts can go to hell.

If you don't want to bother, just be honest and own that you don't care.

Its cheating people that look out for alt texts and it's just a middle finger for #blind users.

Hey #Blind friends on Mastodon I'm hoping some kind soul can help me verify if something is broken for everyone or just for me. I speak of the #YouTube app for #iOS. I thought they'd fixed the player control that allows one to change playback speed of videos but sadly though I can now navigate to said speed control and hear it say, "one times" (using #VoiceOver of course)double tapping on it yields no results of any kind whether video is playing or paused. Is it broken for everyone or just me? Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this for me.

Sometimes I wonder how any #Blind person is able to afford things like streaming services in this job market where at least in my experience, its harder than ever to get a job and we can't even rely on government programs because we don't know if they will exist tomorrow and yet here people are paying for things like YouTube tv at $72 a month and other services besides. Figured it would just be the essentials at this rate but either there are secret jobs I don't know about or something else. It is interesting.

I'm using an air fryer for the first time and making Chicken nuggets. I can't believe it cooks things at 400 degrees. Thing is, its a touchscreen which reall sucks because we'll need to figure out how to label it right. #Cooking, #Food, #Blind

Must be in a certain geographical area? Nope, can't do that cause can't drive and wasn't spontaneously born in a certain area of the world. Ah well, surely these researchers know they'll barely get any participants if they don't make these kinds of studies remote right? Like, how many blind people do they *think* exist in a single city? Lol. Meh.

I've tried everything I know how to do, I tried pasting the bios files into the PCSX2 folder in my C-drive, and even just tried pasting the folder full of the files, either way, I can't seem to load the games that I have, because I found the directory, no luck. #Emulation, #Gaming, #Blind

For years, I've wanted to use Android and Linux as daily drivers. I've always said that if I were sighted, I'd be using Linux and Android.

And this year, it's complete. I'm using a OnePlus 13 Android phone, and Fedora Mate Linux. Well okay, I'm using Linux at work, because Windows is still good for games, but if a VM works well enough, I might just switch to Linux at home too!

Just saying, it's possible. And I'm not even a programmer so can't bend technology, especially FOSS and such, to my will like some other blind people could. I'm just so amazed right now that I did it.
