a Barred owl visited my deck 3 times over the course of a week. I was so surprised each time, and was lucky enough to follow his flight path the one day where he perched in a spruce tree within sight for the entire afternoon. (2/2) Here's my wife's video of the same owl, just chilling and being awesome. We didn't stick around long; didn't want to put her off her hunt.
(1/2) Out walking yesterday with my wife, I spotted what I'm pretty sure is a #BarredOwl perched on a branch about twenty feet away from us. Her attention was mostly focused on the pond nearby, but we definitely caught a cautious glance from her.
If was really something special to see the bird just doing her thing, probably waiting for a frog to snack on.

So back again to update the folks on the bank.
It was then that we decided we should just try to do it ourselves.
Success! We managed to get all the line untangled. The owl will need to do some preening, but its wing seemed to work fine (folded it up lickety spit as soon as the first line was cut and no flesh wounds.) And no humans were injured in the effort.
He didn't fly off right away, but we figured he'd rather we all go away.

We went for a kayak on the Mystic River on this ridiculously beautiful day and found this owl stuck in a tree, its wing tip ensnared in fishing line. People on the shore were making calls for wildlife rescue, so we left the scene.
