If I were to create a writing organization tomorrow with all the financial backing, what would my goals be?

A Guild, open to all from the beginning, with members able to use membership to get group health insurance, get legal services, etc.

I'd want communication and community, and education in both craft & writing business topics.

What do I hope to get out of any writing communities that I've joined?

Here's a downer. I'm looking into health insurance possibilities from writing groups--looks like my insurance is evaporating . . .

Am I a member of a critique group?

I'm not. I've tried a couple of local-ish groups, but they haven't been worth the drive.

I've been to Odyssey--I want people to actually critique my work, not tell me how great it is. I'd rather not waste my time reading critique pieces aloud in person--I want to commit to reading them in advance. All of my local groups, also, seem allergic to genre stories . . .

Am I a member of other writing organizations?

I'm a member of SFWA (decoder ring and all), and I've on and off been a volunteer.

I was a member of Broad Universe (I think my membership lapsed) and I intend to re-up. BU has some crossover with SFWA, but they also have convention sales tables, and do group readings, which I enjoy participating in.

Did I ever complete a NaNoWriMo challenge or a smaller goal?

short answer: No

TLDR: I tried a couple of times, when NaNoWriMo was just November. But back then I had 2 or 3 conventions I was attending in November, plus working at least one of them. I kept trying. I tried setting up local writing meetups--but never managed more than one or two people.

Writephant is the most committed I've been. Thanks for that!

#PennedPossibilities 642: How old are some of your characters?

In my current project, my protagonists are tweens/teens, and my antagonists are adults, with a few exceptions. It's a real "adults treating kids like shit" kind of story. I think teens will love it, if it ever gets out into the world.

Brant. He's just *there* for people. Often quietly. But always present and emotionally supportive.

I think I probably would. Being surrounded by a bunch of people, not just immediate family, feels intuitively pleasant. I'm sure it involves *lots* of meetings, and I'm pretty good at meetings!
