<a href="https://mastodonsweden.se/tags/sciencefiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sciencefiction</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonsweden.se/tags/scifi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>scifi</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonsweden.se/tags/reading" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>reading</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonsweden.se/tags/usedbooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>usedbooks</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonsweden.se/tags/Antikvariat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Antikvariat</span></a></p>

Sarah Sammis<p>I buy a lot of older books off Better World Books, meaning they are most likely library discards. Today's book, Black and White, by David Macaulay (1991) was until 1993, part of the Airdrie Municipal Library in Airdrie, AB, Canada. Sometime after it made it to Better World Books and then to me. I wonder where it went in those 32 years?</p><p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/reading" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>reading</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/UsedBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UsedBooks</span></a> </p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/bookstodon" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>bookstodon</span></a></span></p>

Morgan<p>Once in a while, when life feels overwhelming, I read a children’s book for true escapism. I picked this up after looking for it for quite a long time. The first Warriors book. Hard to find used, believe it or not (I buy most books used). David Croyle<p>Today we visited what has become my favorite used book shop - Robert's in Lincoln City, Oregon - and I love used book shops. This place is a quirky maze with a massive selection so it's always the first place I want to stop in when we visit. <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/books" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>books</span></a> <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/usedbooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>usedbooks</span></a> <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/RoadTrip" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RoadTrip</span></a></p>
Cord Wiljes<p>When you buy used books, sometimes you learn about the copy’s history by markings on the inside. Here is one I received yesterday.</p><p><a href="https://nfdi.social/tags/usedbooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>usedbooks</span></a> <a href="https://nfdi.social/tags/IUPAC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IUPAC</span></a> <a href="https://nfdi.social/tags/terminology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>terminology</span></a></p>
Alexander<p>i bought some specimen in my favorite shop of used books. for example 'Das Grauen. Seltsame Geschichten' (the horror. weird tales) by Hanns Heinz Ewers. today i think the author is almost forgotten but for his Alraune -- in his time he was one of the most prolific writers of the horror genre in germany.<br>So i look ahead to the first story "die tomatensauce", the tomato sauce. (which reminds me of Wong's soy sauce) <br><a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/usedbooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>usedbooks</span></a></p>
Kim Possible<p>Used book retailers often use coded stickers on the spines of their books, for ease of retrieval from warehouse stock. This makes perfect sense, but those stickers on the spines do not look great on your shelves. (Oddly, call numbers on library discards don't bother me.)</p><p>But, I'm here to tell ya that Thriftbooks stickers are easy as pie to peel off. Do not try this with Better World Books. Those stickers are forever. </p><p><a href="https://beige.party/tags/books" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>books</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/UsedBooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UsedBooks</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/Thriftbooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Thriftbooks</span></a> <a href="https://beige.party/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/bookstodon" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>bookstodon</span></a></span></p>
Alexander<p>how or why are finding some books the way in your collection? <br>an example: first you have to find a typo, which is bugging you. like this one: the curved quotation mark in the second line. typesetting in the gdr preferred the guillemets.<br>so how did such a mistake happen? i could call several ways how to do it today, but know next to nothing about the techniques of typesetting in the late 80s in the gdr.<br>so, there you go<br> <br><a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/usedbooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>usedbooks</span></a></p>
