UK & #EU MUST draw closer together the #TUC has urged. The #Brexit disaster has resulted in a weaker & more vulnerable UK. The advent of the #Trump administration, with its extortionist, cruel, incoherent policies & obsequiousness 2 Russia means #RejoinEU must be a top priority. shorturl.at/5fdGv #StandwithUkraine

Britain’s biggest unions call for much closer UK-EU ties amid a ‘volatile’ global economy.

The unions calls for new cooperation agreement ahead of Keir Starmer’s reset talks with Brussels.

The UK should forge much closer ties with Europe amid an increasingly “volatile and unpredictable” global economy, Britain’s biggest trade unions argue as they push for new workers’ rights across the continent.

Given the Tories prioritised the maintenance of profits under the varying conditions (from recession to lockdown) across their years of Government, we cannot be surprised that the TUC will seek to 'restore' pay levels (and living standards) to levels last seen around 2010..

However, of course while 'maintaining' profits is seen as a legitimate business policy, restoring living standards for workers is seen as special pleading & exceptional (now even by Labour).

The has voted for a non-compliance motion on anti-strike laws (specifically minimum service requirements).

Sometimes the is maintained by not complying with unjust laws - maintaining through that the idea of the rule of law is being violated by unjust laws themselves, which those protesting such injustice should break.

This political manoeuvre has a long pedigree, from movements across history;
can the TUC can tap into that history?

Rightly the suggests a 'modest' and clearly focussed would give a significant fiscal boost to ... we need to (re?)establish fairness in in the UK as a way of rebuilding society both financially and morally....

The TUC have as yet not 'recommended' this change, but the very act of pointing out what it would entail ratchets up the pressure on the Labour Party to be thinking about such things!

"The UN’s labour standards body has told the UK government it must make changes to highly controversial new strikes laws, which critics say threaten the fundamental rights of British workers."

UN says unions can use electronic ballots & govt should "improve consultation with unions and limit government powers to ensure they “do not interfere with the autonomy and functioning of workers’ and employers’ organisations”.
