I visited Robert Haus, a national neon treasure two days ago in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
I have known him online for years, and he moved from Alaska so now he is slightly easier to visit.

Robert has probably the best collection of historic neon artifacts, especially when it comes to old bending equipment, transformers, catalogs, and other difficult to find oddities. "Neon Archaeology" is his thing and his blog catalogs his journeys,

His setups were impressive- he has very comprehensive radio and electrical knowledge around neon bombarding systems. FOCI is lucky to have him around. I gave him some hand pulled tubing to play with in exchange for some coffee beans he roasted and some really old rare electrodes. It was so nice to meet him and his wife.

Visited with students and gave slide talks two days ago- and pulled tubes with some very talented students yesterday. Gonna give another demo for UW glassblowing students today.

It's like my birthday came early with the tubes. Gonna make a video at some point to share the glassblowing fun- but Amber Mans an Skye Xollo were SO helpful, with Amber having blown glass since they were very young, and learning to pull tubes from my favorite tube puller in Tacoma.

I saw wonderful undergrad and graduate student work, seen here are Amber's "two truths and a lie" tubes covered in black glass powder and resist sandblasted through (I pulled some of that black/ brown). A studio visit with Morgan, a third year grad student was very neat- their ceramic and neon sculptures playing with texture, dementia, memory, and structure- integrating the neon and clay quite nicely.

Today’s #roadtrip from an overnight aire in Riez, an important Roman settlement, to coast at La Ciotat, SE of Marseille. There we began the Route des Crêtes, a scenic drive along the clifftops of the Cap Canaille in Calanques National Park (📷1), to seaside town of Cassis nr. French Riviera (📷2). From clifftop entrances to calanques—limestone inlets—are visible (📷3). View back to the highest sea cliff in France at 394m, seen here from the habour of Cassis (📷4).
