Jay Cee<p>Quinn, Carrot. 'Thru-Hiking Will Break Your Heart: an adventure on the Pacific Crest Trail'. Carrot Quinn, 2015. @carrotquinn<br>-<br>I have become more and more of a fan of Carrot Quinn in the past few weeks. I've now read all three of her books and I'm sad I don't have another to read and also irked that I don't have physical copies. Anyone who knows me knows I am a bibliophile (a nice term for "hoarder of books"), so that'll change soon enough. There are always Carrot's blog and Instagram posts to carry me along.<br>-<br>You can see how all of Carrot's books influence each other, ideas introduced in one are carried into the next, with 'Bets' being a logical product of her memoirs. I enjoyed seeing common threads and noticing them. As a reader, that's one of the rewards of reading series of books or multiple books by a single author. Ya kinda feel like you're privy to something, some special knowledge in that way.<br>-<br>Carrot wasn't joking when she pointed out Thru-Hiking is longer than Bets. 140k vs 80k words, if I recall correctly? If there's an analogy to be drawn, the book's length, the ebbs and flows of energy (it took me days/weeks to read), knowing the end is approaching and racing to get there, but then feeling a bit lost once you've completed it, may be a suitable one for Carrot's journey on the Pacific Crest Trail.<br>-<br>It's so good. So quotable. I was sending quotes to friends throughout my time reading it. My fellow swamp anarchist @helenmlehndorf loved it too.<br>-<br>Anyone who enjoys train-hopping stories, hobos, post-apocalypse, crust punk, will enjoy this. If you dislike Christians who won't give in to their deepest joyful desires because their religion prevents them from doing so, you'll find a character to dislike in this book. It's not Carrot, but it feels like that person created a barrier to a fuller, more joyous experience. That might just be my own bias tho.<br>-<br><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/anarchism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>anarchism</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/anarchist" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>anarchist</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/anarchistreadinglist" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>anarchistreadinglist</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/CarrotQuinn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CarrotQuinn</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/thruhikingwillbreakyourheart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>thruhikingwillbreakyourheart</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/selfpublished" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>selfpublished</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/PacificCrestTrail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PacificCrestTrail</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/PCT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PCT</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Hiking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Hiking</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/wilderness" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wilderness</span></a></p>

We dropped our packs at a good place to camp and loaded up our fanny packs to hike to the summit of South Sister. We backracked on the PCT to the start of the official route. On the way down, we wanted to head straight back to camp, so we headed down the NW side and unintentionally glissaded about 800 meters down the Lost Creek Glacier. <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/PCT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PCT</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Oregon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Oregon</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/QGIS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>QGIS</span></a></p>

🥄Regan King🥄<p>Exploring the mountain lake Aloha in our ‘21 terminus still haunts me. Our knotted, ashen shadows beckoned, among torn fey creatures, the shriek of Picasso’s Guernica beast. We exited Echo the next day, eliding step-by-step our intimate findings. Here, the smokey tales of <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/PCT" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>PCT</span></a> wanderers. There, the blood curdling banshee call at Suzie lake. And from the submerged heart, the sudden, crisp glee bursting through the shimmering, hungry clouds of spotted green brookies. <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/desolationWilderness" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>desolationWilderness</span></a></p>
