Se encuentra en la Capilla Sansevero, en Nápoles, Italia. La escultura representa a Jesucristo muerto, cubierto por un velo tallado directamente en el mármol, que parece transparente y revela los detalles del rostro y cuerpo martirizado. Este efecto de transparencia es considerado una proeza técnica y artística.La obra fue encargada originalmente al escultor Antonio Corradini, quien falleció dejando solo un boceto en terracota. Sanmartino heredó el encargo y cumplió con las instrucciones de crear una figura a tamaño natural cubierta por un sudario que pareciera real.
