PaulI'm going to potentially fly in the face of public opinion here but I thought Nosferatu (2024) 🎬 was hyped up way too much. I'm a big Eggers fan and I'm not saying the movie was bad cos it wasn't. I thought it was well shot and directed. He put in the usual research and depth in there. I just didn't like a lot of the changes he made to characters like Ellen. I preferred the Werner Herzog version to this. Its a very good movie but I don't think its the best version of Nosferatu or the best Eggers movie. The castle is dilapidated and abandoned, radiating coldness, the stink of moldy dampness, and the barely contained decay. Nosferatu himself is hardly able to speak. His voice, in fact the first thing we “see” of him, his first ordering instrument of power, deep and commanding but completely shallow and devoid of life, is intensely reminding us of his station. Julius Zukowski-KrebsOne thing stands out immediately, watching Nosferatu. It‘s the brilliant usage of affect to set the mood. The actors were from my pov all brilliant, the cinematography immaculate, locations well picked and yes, vampires are scary again. But is this last part actually a good thing?
