Hitting the news today is the earthquake in Myanmar. this has caused devastation and destruction to the area and lives of those living there. But what about aftershocks? How dangerous are they? Aftershocks are actually mini, lesser earthquakes. But can be just as dangerous in an area already hit by devastation. They also add to the fears of people who are distressed.

Am Freitag, den 28. März 2025 ereignete sich um 7:20 Uhr Mitteleuropäische Zeit (12:50 Uhr Ortszeit) ein starkes #Erdbeben in #Myanmar, das nach Angaben von USGS eine Magnitude von 7,7 (Mw) aufwies, mit einer Herdtiefe von nur 10 km.

Laut dem US Geological Survey lag das Epizentrum 17 km süd-östlich von der zweitgrößten Stadt Myanmars, #Mandalay (~ 1.2 Mio Einwohner) entfernt und rund 16 km süd-östlich von der Stadt #Sagaing (~ 79 tausend Einwohner).

Die Erschütterungen waren auch in den Nachbarländern zu spüren, darunter #Thailand, #Indien und #China. Auch in der über 1000 km entfernten thailändischen Metropole #Bangkok hatte das Erdbeben große Auswirkungen. Aktuellen Meldungen zufolge, wurde Bangkok vom thailändischen Premierminister als Emergency Zone deklariert. Bislang ist bekannt, dass einige Gebäude in Bangkok eingestürzt sind und es wird von Einsatzkräften vor Ort nach Verschütteten gesucht.
