Ashes and Dust<p>For <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/MothMonday" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MothMonday</span></a> I give you the leaf mine of the Poison Ivy Leaf-miner Moth. As its name suggests, the larvae live in and mine the insides of Poison Ivy (Toxicodendron) leaves, clearly unaffected by the oil that so irritates human skin. The mines are relatively common around here (southern Manitoba). The adults are small but rather elegant. <br><a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/insect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>insect</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/lepidoptera" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>lepidoptera</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/leafminer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>leafminer</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/moth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>moth</span></a></p>
Ashes and Dust<p>Was at the local indoor tropical garden and noticed extensive leafmining activity on a shrub labeled as Scarlet Bush (Hamelia patens), a species and genus that does not occur in Canada in the wild.</p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://ecoevo.social/@ceiseman" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>ceiseman</span></a></span> what miners are known from Hamelia? Sorry for the poor quality pics. Generally blotchy mines often with a oval hole punch.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/leafminer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>leafminer</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.ca/tags/leafmine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>leafmine</span></a></p>
Alun Kirby<p>Cyanotype can reveal beautiful detail. The &#39;grain&#39; is, with the right subject, very fine indeed. </p><p>This is a rose leaf. It has been &#39;scarred&#39; by the visit of a leaf miner.</p><p>Physical scars act as mnemonics etched on our bodies, which remind us of certain events.</p><p>A scar means we survived and, physically, healed.</p><p>What happens to the memory? Does it fade with the scar?</p><p><a href="https://zirk.us/tags/cyanotype" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>cyanotype</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/blueprint" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>blueprint</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/Rose" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Rose</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/RoseLeaf" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>RoseLeaf</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/LeafMiner" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LeafMiner</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/details" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>details</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/porto" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>porto</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/Scar" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Scar</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/Mnemonic" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Mnemonic</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/Memory" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Memory</span></a> <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/PhilosophyOfMemory" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>PhilosophyOfMemory</span></a></p>
