In France, no one cares about this news
Moreover, there are lots of criticism against Paris municipality policy... (I live there...)

This news is, surprisingly, very well received internationally
This is the same as Paris ranking in the "best places to live", where the first criteria was the policies against cars, and pro-bikes

#DontLookUp

Rules on UK car firms relaxed ahead of 2030 petrol vehicles ban bbc.com/news/articles/cj3xe7pp

This may be “pragmatic” but beside the opposition’s complaint that it “doesn’t help industry enough” it prolongs and worsens the damaging effects of ICE vehicles - and allows a “cliff edge” approach that will be used in a few years to undermine the transition by painting it as unachievable. Oh, and if you build cars for rich people you can just carry on making them as polluting as you like.

I suppose once only rich people have ICE cars at least we’ll be able to bring the fuel duty escalator back, right? Right??

Where @ethanz tells us about the cultural power of #DontLookUp:

"But there’s something Don’t Look Up gets right. Many of our #institutions are failing us. The experts don’t know what to do. The feelings of terror and helplessness lead people to behave strangely and unpredictably. McKay doesn’t offer us a solution to an ongoing #apocalypse, but this #film, at its best, offers us a moment of #empathy. Look past the machinations of the politicians and the media stars, and look towards the people in the background trying to make sense of a reality that no longer makes sense, disrupted by #COVID or #climatechange or by a slide into #authoritarianism. If there’s a solution to this polycrisis, this interconnected mess of apocalyptic threats, it’s in the #groups working to live through this scary moment, not through the politicians or celebrities who’ll get to escape to their bunkers or spaceships."

Ethan Zuckerman · Science on Screen: Don't Look Up - Ethan ZuckermanDon't Look Up anticipates the stupidity of our political moment, but misfires on the power of authenticity. Enjoy the apocalypse.

This is a bad decision, and against the advice of the Planning Inspectorate (yes, the PI is occasionally right, hard though that may be to believe at times). There is no need for it whatsoever, and a very pressing need not to add to our emissions. Crisis, what crisis?
