Shown is a 1969 hardcover reprinting of the historic criminal reference work, 1886 Professional Criminals of America, assembled by #NYPD Inspector and Chief of Detectives Thomas Byrnes about a century earlier.

The Byrnes book of 1886 contains writeups and mugshot photographs for hundreds of criminals active in the 1880s (though little of interest to the American Mafia historian). It's 400-plus pages also feature discussions of police work and criminal justice, and methods used by criminals. The book includes brief bios of criminals executed at New York City's #TombsPrison from 1851 to 1886.

The 1969 reprint can be obtained through sellers of used books. A paperback reprint published in 2000 is also available. The original work can be accessed online at the Internet Archive https://archive.org/details/cu31924096989177
