@teleclimber @ai6yr
If you don't want to keep bees yourself, find a local bee keeper to remove them and give them a new home. Many bee keepers will probably do it for free, because they get a free queen and swarm of bees. I would, if I lived close enough. People other than bee keepers are likely to poison or smother the bees. This isn't their fault, this is the fault of the designer of that water meter cover. #BeeKeeping #Bees
@ai6yr Apologies for hijacking the replies for my own personal concerns, but...
Speaking of #bees, we just found that there is a budding hive in the concrete lid over our water meter. It's between the sidewalk and the road. We put a sign up to warn about them.
We'll likely call the water people tomorrow., but would you suggest anything else we should do? Thanks!
There are sooo many *Augochlora pura*, Pure Green Sweat Bees, in my garden this Spring.
Nearly every log in my garden has them visiting. The size of my pinky nail, ~1cm, they nest in rotting wood.
They are my favoritest bee.

My bees are producing young which is a good sign that they are thriving! I'm very happy to see several frames of brood in there now. A lot of it capped. There are a lot of uncapped eggs and larvae too. I have a picture of the queen, Bee Arthur, she is circled in blue.
The solid yellow caps on the 1st picture are brood or bees about to hatch. They have a fair amount of honey and pollen spread around too.
Have a wonderful evening everyone!
My little apple tree being pollinated by a female Hairy-footed Flower Bee (Anthophora plumipes).
A surprise honeybee swarm in the garden this afternoon!
(Yes, I've already talked to a local beekeeper about collecting them.)
New pollen-replacing food for honey bees brings new hope for survival
Sweat bee (Lasioglossum pilosum) on shiranui mandarin (aka dekopon, aka sumo mandarin)
Really hope the fruit hold this year.
The oak tree in our tiny farmyard is alive with bees feeding. At first I thought it was a swarm but no. #bees
Reed bench at the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge (Tinicum, PA). Found a few plugged by mason bees but not as much activity as you'd expect on a warm spring day. #bees #philadelphia #phragmites #osmia
I was reading up on the baldurs gate patch notes. They've added a new swarmkeeper class which sounds cool but unfortunately it's tied to being a ranger which I don't want.
I want to be a Knight in heavy armour that has bees. An Apiculture Knight.
Today is shaping up to be a perfectly wonderful spring day.
Bees bringing in the pollen on Saturday morning. I estimate between 100-120 bees per minute with pollen. That could be over 1.5 grams of pollen per minute or 500 grams in 6 hours. More than a pound of pollen and they work hours than that. That's based on them only carrying 15mg of pollen but I read they can carry 30mg.
Gartenbesucher. Die Stachelbeere blüht wenn auch sehr unscheinbar. Die Hummeln freuts aber umso mehr.
I just got home from driving an hour from Colton to get some new #bees. Driving around with a box with tens of thousands of bees in it encourages safe driving.
