Someone actually said "It's hard to see one of the first houses in Topeka torn down."
What?! This house was built in 1880. It stands to reason that it was definitely not "one of the first houses in Topeka" considering Topeka was founded in 1854.
Anyway, here is an article, coroner's verdict from #Topeka newspaper on James Haywood's unfortunate death, and his wife, Nancy's obituary in 1912.
The funeral was held at 2 P.M. on December 27 at the A.M.E. Church. Burial was in Topeka Cemetery.
