i’m glad more places are offering cash discounts, to help expose and wean us from the credit card fee racket, but i wish they’d also offer debit card discounts, inexpensive without the inconvenience of carrying cash.

@interfluidity I don't think businesses really do this entirely because of fees, but also because whether debit or credit, settlement of card transactions takes time and carries risk, while cash is immediate and low risk and sometimes restocks them with bills or coins to use for other customers' change.

(And of course some businesses may be doing other things that make them prefer cash transactions...)

@interfluidity What about natural goods trade discounts?

Me bring fire!

@admitsWrongIfProven it’s hard to use fire as a currency. it transfers without extinguishing, so it’s easy to double spend.

@interfluidity Your administration is all about turning back the clock, but you refuse pure and simple things, like inventing fire as a major thing...

Are you sure that you are really american, a us citizen, forged in the american exceptionalism that made the meme?

Check back after our febuary votes, i might have to concede some points, if i survive the outcome ^^

@interfluidity I heard that the credit card companies would take away the business' card reader if they offered a cash discount. Maybe that's just something I imagined.

@gooser3000 credit card issuers used to forbid any kind of price differential in their contracts, but i think regulators have finally rendered those kinds of restraints illegal or unenforceable.
