Hello!
Per the linked thread, I've decided to choose zirk.us as my Geocities neighborhoo--, I mean Mastodon instance, for a variety of reasons; hoping to never have to say, "Not my zirk.us, not my monkeys."
I'm looking forward to following, and adding to, an interesting local feed on a much smaller instance, while still engaging across the Fediverse.
After a long weekend on zirk.us, I'm enjoying the new neighborhood, particularly having an engaging but not overwhelming local feed to browse now and then.
Moving instances was easy and self-explanatory, but two things I didn't realize beforehand:
1) Update your bio so it's crystal clear that you've moved. Post your new location and delete everything else. The web version makes it obvious, but it looks different on apps.
2) Pin a post about your move.
PS: Make sure to update your Mastodon info elsewhere, like in your Birdsite bio (so people can find the current profile), website links, and your rel=me verification code.
PPS: You'll also need to redo any filters you created as they don't carry over to your new account. If you don't want to hear about the birdsite, I'd highly recommend setting up a simple filter to keep your timeline clean. Depending on who you're following and how much they're cross-posting, it can make a huge difference.
