Have spent the last few days investigating tarot and I Ching in depth for the first time & it’s absolutely *fascinating*. I always steered clear of anything labelled divination because I thought it was just fanciful fortune-telling— I’ve never been so happy to be completely wrong!
I love how the symbolism & archetypes of #tarot and the daoist-confucian philosophy and ethos of change in the #IChing serve to stimulate creative thinking that’s in large part outside our usual binary logic circuits.
I was also pleased to find out that many people don’t use the tarot or the I Ching explicitly for fortune-telling or predicting the future, but rather as a mirror into their psyche and sense of self in order to reflect on what’s happening in their mind and lives. *That* is something I know a hell of a lot about, and I really love how these divination techniques creatively facilitate that.

The use of symbols in the practice of both tarot and I Ching also gels very well with my philosophical thinking about the power of metaphor as an epistemological strategy, and indeed a practical (if informal) laboratory and demonstration of such power! I’m super excited to find out more and try using both these tools regularly in my own life alongside my usual Buddhist practice.
(But I might need a bit of help to stop collecting all the beautiful tarot decks- I already have three now! )
