@Jackiemauro @lzg This says it so succinctly. I've had to mute some phrases on here that I *am value-aligned with* because it was the only way to keep the insufferable evangelists from becoming overwhelming. Not great.

@aehdeschaine @Jackiemauro @lzg once I was talking about how I, a fuck cars person, am finally getting my DL at 40 years old coz I live here now and this is my reality and also I want to be able to get around in the apocalypse

And a few of those types were arguing with me that a bicycle will be better in the apocalypse

I mean, I agree; but also wtf

@skinnylatte @Jackiemauro @lzg It's so funny, because it's not like you won't use the more-useful bike in said apocalypse! Until that time, or actual change happens, car reality is car reality.

I had to mute a number of people from Amsterdam pretty early on here... Shouting from a very bike-friendly country doesn't improve my country's transit situation 🤷‍♀️

My Dutch is reasonable enough to chat online about a decade ago with young folk from NL. Its true they ride bikes a lot, but there was a definite sentiment they felt cycling culture was "imposed" on them by "big government" and they wanted cars like everyone else in Northern Europe. There's still quite a car culture in NL and only a few days ago a mutual from there had trouble on his bike from bad/dangerous drivers..

@vfrmedia @skinnylatte @Jackiemauro @lzg This is fascinating, as it is definitely NOT the impression given through my limited social media window!

To be fair, NL does have good street designs in some areas but social media posts cherry pick the best areas (there are outer suburbs and rural areas with less safe roads) and "bad news" is often not translated (there are still many collisions in NL between bikes and cars, but you would only see them if you read "112-nieuws" in Dutch (112 is the equivalent of 911). Also NL elections have led to more car-friendly right wing parties getting power..
