I humbly submit this suggestion to the gov't officials responding to the . How about using some of the to start building temporary housing for those displaced by the fires? The will be here in a few years & I've read about plans to build Olympic villages to house athletes? How about start on something like that now? & convert some of the stadiums that are in L.A. & will house gymnastics, track & field, et al. into temporary housing.

This post got several likes & @shadowsminder encouraged me to contact 's office. Here's the form & what I wrote. gov.ca.gov/contact/

Dear Governor Newsom,
I know LA has planned to build housing for the 2028 Olympic athletes, as well asuse already built structures for sports events. Given the enormous need for shelter, I implore you order the National Guard to create temporary structures for housing as well as to use sports-events structures for housing.

I wrote to Governor Newsom's office in the hopes that temporary structures can be quickly created using 2028 LA Olympic planning. I'm tagging you all because of the people I follow, you have the biggest audience, and I thought if you were willing to boost my post, maybe more people would write to Newsom seconding this suggestion or perhaps coming up with better one(s). With thanks.

@CindyWeinstein This is a perfect idea. No downside. All to the good

@michelestrider

Thank you! Why is no one doing it (or have I just not read about it)?

@CindyWeinstein But that would be giving things to people FOR FREE! *gasp*

@CindyWeinstein brilliant. We surely have a few pennies to spare from the defense budget. What better way to defend our people (and visiting international athletes in a few years) than by building shelter?

@CindyWeinstein Oh, if only there were a nearby source of workers ready and willing to do hard labor on something like that

@PamelaBarroway

I'm glad you think so. Surely the powers that be are thinking of this, right? And if not, how do I send this idea upstairs? Any strategies are appreciated!

@CindyWeinstein One might ask “What would Jimmy Carter do?”

@TonyStark @GottaLaff @heidilifeldman @jeffjarvis @peter @DemocracyMattersALot

Thank you very much for the boost. Now to teach class -- Poe's Masque of the Red Death. Profound resonances.

@CindyWeinstein @shadowsminder I believe that's for the future. Right now, the National Guard is two busy fighting fires.
